Pros:
Patchouli
Cons:
I first saw the curious little yellow and white Smiley box at our LA Sniffapalooza in February 2007. The Luckyscent guys brought it along to lunch for people to sample. I didn't get to sniff it then, as I thought it was a box of alcohol wipes (working in a dental office skews my thinking sometimes!)
I read about Smiley on-line when I returned home, and was intrigued by this sweet, yet woody, scent that is supposed to elevate your mood. It does have patchouli in it, and that always seems to be a mood-enhancer for me. I was looking forward to giving it a try.
Now our NYC Spring Sniffapalooza comes along, and amazingly enough Henri Bendel is giving us this fragrance FREE in our GWP goody bags!! (Along with some Bigelow skin creams, a L'Artisan Spiral Charm, and a full-size HB Rose Petal Body Polish) So, I purchased a Caron, and got the rest of the loot for free!
Smiley has a lively burst of citrus, alongside a sweet sugar note (a tad too sweet at first, but it dissipates), followed by a wonderful drydown of a mildly lemony-sweet patchouli. Somehow, my skin really works really well with this type of scent.
I can't say that it does anything to elevate my mood. (And I'd rather be cranky & complain about something than be "smiley" any day of the week.) But I do enjoy wearing this uncomplicated scent, and can see that it will become a staple in my Spring/Summer scent wardrobe.
Here are the notes -
Top notes : Bergamote, Orange, Piment, Baies
Middle notes : Cacao, Praline, Curaçao
Base notes : Patchouli, Myrrhe, Musc
As a bonus, the bottle, which is labelled in English, French and Braille, is a unique little lay-down cylinder. It's easy to handle, and looks fun and quirky on my dresser top.
