Gaucho is the latest release from Ayala's natural perfumery line.
Classification can be green/ leathery/ fougere/chypre- this says it best !
The loving work of tender hands and a vivid imagination, Gaucho was a long time in the making.
Its formulation was fraught with stumbling blocks- but the end result is truly splendid.
A delicate, herbaceous, airy chypre with a hint of bitterness and a soft leathery drydown-
Gaucho is remarkably dry, elegant, and wistful-
A love poem to the Pampas.
The gorgeously verdant ! pop ! of galbanum in the top, seasoned with wormwood for a faint twang of subtle bitterness, recalls a color similar to Miss Dior.
This familiarity is heightened by the leathery animalic base- in Gaucho, African Stone tincture and angelica replace the civet/ castoreum, and lend a suavity that whispers its presence.
The feel is less of a pronouncement [Miss Dior] , and more of an innuendo.
It is the heart that fills me with longing.
Somehow, Seville lavender, broom, and rosemary blend with hay-like notes to remind me of peaceful, joyous tomboy days spent up a tree, sequestering carrots in the pockets of my overall for the horses, walking barefoot down dusty dirt roads with my guitar slung over my shoulder.
Naps in haystacks.
Men may enjoy this, but not exclusively !
So far, it has enraptured my overly-discriminating SIL, long-suffering DH [ who abides in ever-present olfactory anxiety, poor lamb !], and my almost-men.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who craves subtlety, naturalistic beauty, and earthy elegance that is wearable.
