We were lucky enough to score last-minute tickets to Broadway’s Hamilton a few weeks ago. It was a life-changing experience, and we can’t stop vibrating! The show inspired us in so many ways, including wondering what fragrances the characters would wear. Here are our scentful musings. Talk less, spritz more!

Alexander Hamilton:  John Varvatos Dark Rebel – He’s young, scrappy and fragrant and he’s not throwing away his shot. Or his cologne… the Schuyler sisters really dig it.

Aaron Burr: Chanel Egoiste – He wanted to be in the room where it happened, but he wasn’t invited. And he’s pissed. Burr spritzed first!

Marquis de Lafayette: Caron L’Anarchiste – Dreaming of life without a monarchy, he’s looking for revolution and revelation on two continents. And a classic French Eau de Cologne with citrus and lavender.

King George: Creed Royal Water – Oceans rise, empires fall, but his loyal, royal subjects have had enough of him. Luckily he still smells fab. Awesome. Wow.

Eliza Schuyler: Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady – Her perfume smells like her daddy’s got money. And that’s a man-magnet… just ask A.Ham.

Angelica Schuyler: Robert Piguet Fracas – She would never be satisfied. And she sprays like she’s running out of time.

Peggy Schuyler: Thierry Mugler Angel – She married well, but died before Act Two. There’s a million fragrances she hasn’t tried.

Maria Reynolds: By Kilian Dangerous Liaisons – Hamilton didn’t know how to say no to this. Something smells funny, just look around!

Much research has been done in the field scent marketing, and ScentWorld was chock full of seminars led by leading scientists and academics. Some highlights were Dr. Alan Hirsch, founder and neurological director of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, delivering the keynote address, “Research into Action: From Science to Market Implementation.”  Scent researcher, Dr. Maureen Morrin presented “Moving Consumer Perceptions and Behavior Through Scent-Triggered Memory: The Latest Research.” Chandler Burr, director and curator, Center of Olfactory Art, Museum of Arts & Design, was the keynote speaker at the Gala Cocktail party. Sniffapalooza’s own Karen Dubin participated in the panel discussion, “Smelling, Feeling, Wanting, Learning: A Scent Lover’s Workshop.”

Perfumers Christoph Hornetz (above with Karen D) and Gary McNatton stopped by the Sniffapalooza booth to chat. On display at our table, and provided by our friends at Histoires de Parfums, was the complete Scent of Departure fragrance collection in its jaunty travel case. The perfumes, each representing a airport destination included Paris, London, Munich, Tokyo, and of course, New York City, attracted much attention and lots of visitors stopped by for a sniff!
