Just how special is Byredo? Special enough for forty fragrance enthusiasts to rise early last Sunday morning and head over to the Soho boutique. We enjoyed the scents, sights, and camaraderie, while grazing on delicious Dean & Deluca breakfast pastries and mimosa’s. Flagship Director, Carissa Barrett, treated us to a Byredo Master Class, offering an in-depth look at this modern luxury house.
Byredo Founder Ben Gorham’s attention to detail is everywhere, from the design of the fragrances to the boutique itself. The floors and walls are lined with Italian terrazzo and polished aluminum, and Douglas fir beams punctuate the ceiling. Fragrant rows of minimalist bottles beckoned us to spritz and sniff. Exquisite leather goods adorn the shelving, adding a touch of scent themselves. Byredo’s newest offering is Bibliothèque, a limited-edition perfume based on their popular candle. Its notes of peach, plum, peony, violet, leather, patchouli, and vanilla, are meant to evoke “a world of old books, the scent of their leather-bound pages arranged on dark wood shelves.”
