Barcelona Bound

We love fragrance and we love to travel. Combine the two and you’ve got Sniffapalooza Barcelona – our fifth annual trip abroad! Stayed tuned for recaps of our prior journeys, so you can see how we travel, Sniffapalooza style!

We’ll be taking a small group of 20 – 25 travelers along with us to discover the sights, scents and tastes of Barcelona. And best of all, we’ve got inside access to the world of fragrance!

Saturday, November 5 — Saturday, November 12, 2011

Six nights accommodations at a charming hotel in Barcelona near Las Ramblas, double occupancy (single occupancy available at an additional cost), private bath, A/C, Satellite TV, wireless high-speed internet access, swimming pool and sauna, breakfast each morning, four days of Private Motorcoach, including day-trips with English-speaking guide to Montserrat Museum & Monastery; to Salvador Dali Museum & Theatre in Figueres & Girona,  a comprehensive city tour of Antonio Gaudi architecture, sojourns  to  perfume factories and flower fields,  events sponsored by raw materials houses,  presentations by perfumers, private visits to niche perfume boutiques,  including all taxes & service fees, and airport transfers – all for the incredibly low price of under $1500.00!

(Price does not include airfare. Current roundtrip rate from JFK/NYC to BCN/Barcelona is under $800.00. You may be able to use your frequent flyer miles and save $$!)

Our days will be spent in sensory-related tours of museums, laboratories, factories, flower fields… and browsing amazing shops and markets for locally made olive oil, soaps, potpourri, china, leather goods, textiles, and of course – fragrance! We will be immersed in the arts and culture of Barcelona, venturing down roads not traveled by the average tourist. We’ve culled lists from the experts, and we know about the restaurant with its own signature fragrance, where the best ‘secret’ martini bar is, and where to find the most extraordinary ice cream in Barcelona!

There’s no better way to see the world and we hope you will join us!

Amuse Bouche

Amuse Bouche  def: \a-‘myuz bush\ [Fr. amuse the mouth] a little bite to amuse the mouth and invigorate the palate.

Drive slowly up Avenue U, past Kings Plaza, and you may notice a small shack on the edge of Mill Basin.  You’d probably miss it, but there’s a long line of people assembled on the sidewalk out front.  This is Dolly’s Italian Ices, simply the best place for homemade Italian ices in Brooklyn.  Or maybe even anywhere else.  The canopied sign lists a myriad of tempting flavors, including novel offerings such as Peanut Butter and Jelly, Rainbow Cookie, Apple Crumb, Banana Walnut Chip, Cannoli, and Jelly Ring. There’s also a bounty of fruit flavors that are studded with real fruit morsels. Be careful, you may still be perusing the menu when it’s your turn to place an order. Two scoops – or three or four – are served in a small white paper cup that squashes up just right so you can slurp the last melted drops. When visiting family in the summer, I always take the time to stop at Dolly’s and savor a cup of their icy smooth ambrosia. Their creative flavor combinations help me experience a true moment of amuse bouche.

Some fragrances provide the olfactory equivalent of palatal surprise. Their originality, and a touch of the unexpected, awakens the senses. Here are a few that come to mind, along with their scent notes:

Thierry Mugler WomanityCitrus, Woods, Fig, and Caviar

Etat Libre d’Orange Encens et BubblegumRaspberry, Peach, Lily of the Valley, Orange Blossom, Vanilla, Musk and Incense.

L’Artisan Piment Brulant Red Pepper, Chocolate, Vanilla, Cloves, Poppy, and Musk
