Scenting Hamilton: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Smells Your Story?

Team Karen Hamilton

We were lucky enough to score last-minute tickets to Broadway’s Hamilton a few weeks ago. It was a life-changing experience, and we can’t stop vibrating! The show inspired us in so many ways, including wondering what fragrances the characters would wear. Here are our scentful musings. Talk less, spritz more!

Alexander Hamilton:  John Varvatos Dark Rebel He’s young, scrappy and fragrant and he’s not throwing away his shot. Or his cologne… the Schuyler sisters really dig it.

Aaron Burr: Chanel Egoiste He wanted to be in the room where it happened, but he wasn’t invited. And he’s pissed. Burr spritzed first!

Marquis de Lafayette: Caron L’Anarchiste Dreaming of life without a monarchy, he’s looking for revolution and revelation on two continents. And a classic French Eau de Cologne with citrus and lavender.

King George: Creed Royal Water Oceans rise, empires fall, but his loyal, royal subjects have had enough of him. Luckily he still smells fab. Awesome. Wow.

Eliza Schuyler: Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady  Her perfume smells like her daddy’s got money. And that’s a man-magnet… just ask A.Ham.

Angelica Schuyler: Robert Piguet Fracas She would never be satisfied. And she sprays like she’s running out of time.

Peggy Schuyler: Thierry Mugler Angel She married well, but died before Act Two. There’s a million fragrances she hasn’t tried.

Maria Reynolds: By Kilian Dangerous Liaisons Hamilton didn’t know how to say no to this. Something smells funny, just look around!

Sniffapalooza Speaks: HBA Global Expo 2013 in NYC!

IMG_0233 HBA Global Expo & Conference landed at the Javits Center in NYC last week, ushering in summer with a dazzling array of innovative products & packaging in the beauty, skincare, and fragrance markets. There were many new ideas to explore and engaging seminars to attend in brand development, natural & sustainable, trend watching, and innovation. Jamie Thomas of trend visionary Stylesight presented the Fall/Winter 2014 forecast for beauty & fashion, with emphasis on handcrafts from the BRIC nations, and themes of Quietude, Allegory, and Enrapture. Kelly Kovak of the Color Association of the US, tempted us with farmstand color trends – blue potato, endive, kale and corn. Sniffapalooza’s own Karen Dubin participated on the What’s Next for Fragrance? panel, along with Doreen Bucher of Symrise Fine Fragrance, Blair Bloom of Just Bloom, Abby Fazio of New London Luxe, and moderator Sue Phillips of Scenterprises. Niche fragrance trends influencing the mass market, sampling scents in the digital age, fragrance layering with ancillary products, and the proliferation of portable roller ball packaging were some of the many topics covered by the group. An inspired time was had by all!

ScentWorld, Bali, and a Giveaway!

We had a fantastic time at last week’s ScentWorld 2013 at the Downtown Marriott in NYC. Views of the Freedom Tower were right outside the entrance, and the world’s premier scent and sensory marketing conference was just inside on the third floor! Ambient scenting is a growing market, with many booths displaying their unique scent delivery systems. Though most consumers aren’t fully aware of the trend, many resorts, casinos, spas, and health care and retail establishments use scent to enhance the aesthetic experience.
